11/04: In between: a small change of plans

Well, just a short postscriptum post to keep you posted (ahaha). While we had a good plan worked out by Lilly and Jurrien to travel to southwest Yunnan (thanks again for that!!), we just decided during breakfast to change this to a different route advised by two friendly Israeli people we met yesterday evening. While the first plan would bring us to the much praised south-west tip of China and from there along a backdoor route into Guangxi province, we'll instead head straight off to the west for Guizhou province to take another many-small-villages route leading down to Yangshuo, Guangxi.
While we didn't know much about the former route, unsure how much time it would take, the Israeli couple extensively described the latter route and it seems to excellently fit our desires, resembling our previous itinerary from Xining to Chengdu through Qinghai province. For fellow travellers visiting this site: chinabackpacker.com provides some excellent off-road tips, including this route. The details are described at http://chinabackpacker.com/old/itineraries/ys_kaili.htm
For those interested, here's the route. I've also added some [Google Maps] links, which should prove useful especially for my parents whose atlas seems to list all varieties of towns except the ones we visit :)
* Tonight we'll take the overnight sleeper from [Kunming ] to [Kaili], where the route starts
* Kaili - Xijiang - Leishan - Rongjiang
* Zengchong - Wangdong - Rongjiang - Congjiang
* Congjiang - Luoxiang - Zhaoxing
* Chengyang - Sanjiang - Longsheng
* Pingan/Jinkeng - Longsheng - Yangshuo (which is close to [Guilin])
(We might skip some of these villages on the way.)
Yangshuo should be another Dali (hopefully not Lijiang) with a laidback tourism scene, and therefore internet ;-). The whole route should take about one week - or perhaps in our pace up to two weeks if we find a nice spot or don't feel like getting up at six to catch a bus ;).
Now we're off for a stroll along Kunmings city market to stock up and find a Mahjongg card game (and who knows - Dutch cheese??). Zaidjie!

Heel mooi.
Groeten,
